Your favorite knife
Dutch oven or 8 quart pot with tight fitting lid
1 bottle red wine (doesn’t matter quality or type it all turns out great!)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 bay leaf
5 black peppercorns
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp fennel seed
Peel and halve pears.
Grab your Dutch oven or pot--pour your bottle of red wine and 3/4 cup sugar in. Bring to a boil and continue to boil, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.
Add spices and pears.
Cover, reduce to a simmer, and cook until tender about 30 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow to rest a few minutes. SERVE hot or cold.
Goes great with vanilla ice cream.
